The first mention of the D.O. Scenic Story Company is in the Boston Business Directory for 1870. The listing is for David 0. Story: Sign, Scenic & Ornamental painter. Scenery furnished. 71 Sudbury Street, Boston (maybe the father of O.L.?)

The listing for O. L. Story continues in the subsequent editions with some changes in location and description: 1872 at 26 Brattle Square, Boston.

A 1876 advertisement: at 18 Exchange Street & 24 Devonshire Street - Scenery for Theaters, Halls etc. Scenery to Let. Made to Order.

In 1887 the listing changes to: O.L. Story at 109 Haverhill Street, Boston - Scenery for Theaters, Halls and etc. Made to Order. Scenery for Let.

In 1892 - O.L. Story at 22 Pemberton Square, Boston - Drop Curtains & Scenery for Halls & Theaters. Photographic Backgrounds and all kinds of Large Watercolor Paintings for decorations and other purposes. Made to order.

In 1897 the listing is as above but also includes - Dealer in all kinds of Stage Fixtures & Supplies. The location expands to a studio at 21 Tufts Street, Somerville & at 60 Pemberton Square, Boston

In 1911 the advertisement reads: The O.L. Story Scenic Company, 21 Tufts Street, near Prospect Hill Station, Somerville, Massachusets. Drop Curtains Stage Scenery, Portraits & Pictorial Paintings for Public Decorations. Decorative Panels, Friezes for Interior Decorations, Oil Portraits, Photographic Backgrounds, Theatrical Properties & all kinds of stage supplies.

In 1912 - The same advertisement as above BUT now includes a reproduction of a painted curtain panel. The scene includes the familiar castle on the left, the lake and hills beyond and a swaged curtain surround. The advertisement also now includes Asbestos Fire Curtains.

This same advertisement with same picture continues in all the volumes from 1912 through 1929 with a telephone number added in 1916.

In 1930 the advertisement remains but without picture.

In 1934 the final listing appears but no advertisement.
